Charity Run - Please can you help us to support Debbie’s GNR Dollies raising funds for The Trinity Holistic Centre, Middlesbrough (south tees hospital charity) , a charity which supports patients with cancer and other long term conditions, as well as their families and hospital staff. As some of you may know Stockton Striders AC very own wonderful, strong & resilient Debbie Edwards continues with her journey following her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2021. Things haven’t gone according to plan but that doesn’t stop our Debbie. In Debbie’s own words “ this cancer is now, today, incurable. I am a 36 year old woman with localised Stage 4 triple negative breast cancer. But it’s only a number and cancer only a word, so why should I not live my best life? So what’s next? I’m some 400+ days since diagnosis and as of today will stop counting the days but make the days count. This is my new normal and it’s just going to have to fit into my life” So for Debbie, living her best life includes a return to running. As a visually impaired runner Debbie has already overcome so many barriers to be able to run. As a thank you to the Trinity Holistic Centre where she has received holistic treatments since her cancer diagnosis , Debbie would like to do the great north run this year (treatment permitting) for the Charity. In the heady pre-Covid days of 2019 there was a merry little band of five of us who all trained together with Debbie for her first marathon - the York marathon - and we all want to support her in doing the GNR together so have all got trinity holistic centre charity places to run with her. Of course this does mean a collective fundraising target of £1200 so we are organising this 5k to raise some funds.  Debbie is the most positive, courageous, inspirational person we know and we would love as many people as possible to come and do the run and offer support. Route: With this event you will actually run inside the prison! The route is predominantly flat with a mix of trail and paths, taken you in and around the prison grounds. Don’t hang around too long or the guards will pop you in your cell. A massive thank you to Muddy Roads, HMP Kirklevington -  Simon Russell & Stockton Striders AC for their support helping us to facilitate and host this 5k. We hope you all enjoy the run and they’ll be an opportunity for refreshments as well as a raffle afterwards.
